The net zero challenge
Heating our homes accounts for over 20% of carbon dioxide emissions in the UK due to the burning of fossil fuels. This is why gas boilers are being phased out, with a ban on them being installed in new build properties from 2025. In the UK, 1.3m gas comb-boilers are currently installed per year, with a further 4.3m in the EU, so the challenge - and market opportunity - is considerable.
Why heat pumps
As people look to heat their homes in an environmentally friendly and cheaper way, heat pumps are one of the best solutions. Thermal energy (heat) is extracted from the air, ground or a local water source, which a heat pump then uses to generate heating and hot water for our homes. They can produce more than three time the heat output they consume in electricity input.
